Spinning Skill Share

Posted on October 1, 2020 by Aurora Dawning

Phlox and Juniper Caldera invite you to join them *Virtually* for a Spinning Skillshare! Spinning wool and other fibers is an art that connects us to each other and to our ancestors. What a perfect time as the weather cools and Samhain approaches that you can connect with your community through a shared craft!

This virtual event is on Wednesday, Oct 21, 2020 at 7pm

Juniper Caldera and Phlox will be sharing drop spindle spinning techniques to get you started as well as talking about use of a spinning wheel and different fiber options. They will also be sharing some connections to magic, deity, and ancestor work that spinning offers.

Please pre-register here: https://forms.gle/Z2KYAPKAQnGxvFSXA

Things you might want to consider:

  • You don’t have to do any spinning with us, you can simply join for the community aspect BUT if you do choose to spin with us
  • Joining on a device with video in case you need technical assistance so we can see what’s going on
  • Spinning supplies! We suggest a TOP WHORL drop spindle and wool roving to begin with. Below are a few links to beginner kits we’ve encountered but feel free to explore. We’ve intentionally chosen kits that are about $20 or less. There are lots of beautiful wools and spindles in the world – starting simple is perfect. If you’re not sure if you want to commit long term to spinning you can also create your own drop spindle with a CD, paper clip, pencil and some strong tape or putty. You can even practice spinning with yarn or ribbon you have at home already. Here’s a tutorial on making a simple drop spindle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRh85t_XVg4
